Relive an old Disney favorite – or introduce it to new generations – when you attend a special showing of 101 Dalmatians! Check out a rare screening of the 1961 classic at The Queen Theatre on Saturday, January 25th.
101 Dalmatians is a 1961 animated adventure film produced by Walt Disney Productions and based on the 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith. Directed by Clyde Geronimi, Hamilton Luske, and Wolfgang Reitherman, it was Disney's 17th animated feature film.
Dalmatian Pongo is tired of his bachelor-dog life. He spies lovely Perdita and maneuvers his master, Roger, into meeting Perdita's owner, Anita. The owners fall in love and marry, keeping Pongo and Perdita together too. After Perdita gives birth to a litter of 15 puppies, Anita's old school friend Cruella De Vil wants to buy them all.
Roger declines her offer, so Cruella hires the criminal Badun brothers to steal them -- so she can have a fur coat. Pongo and Perdita set out to save their children from Cruella, in the process of rescuing 84 additional puppies that were bought in pet shops, bringing the total of Dalmatians to 101.
The Queen Theatre was originally built in the late 1800s as a hotel in the heart of Downtown Bryan. The hotel began showing silent films on the ground level in the early 1900s before the name "Queen Theatre" was officially given to the building in 1914. From 1939 to the mid-1970s, the hotel was used as a fully operational movie theatre, with its inaugural screening being 5th Avenue Girl starring Ginger Rogers. In 2010, renovations began on the long-unused building before reopening on May 4, 2018, as a single screen film house and performance venue.
